Archangel Gabriel is one of the three Angels mentioned in the Holy Bible. The name Gabriel means the power of God. He was sent by God to Zacharias, to announce the birth of John the Forerunner, to the Virgin Mary, to greet her and bring the message of the imminent birth of the Redeemer and to the Prophet Daniel, to explain the visions he had seen he and to reveal the time of the coming of the Messiah.

The Orthodox Church invites the faithful (Synaxis) to honor the Archangel Gabriel on March 26, who revealed to the prophet Daniel the coming of the Messiah and to Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God.
