Beloved name of Our Lady on Mount Athos (Iveron monastery), which she received from the fact that while her Holy icon was placed inside the Katholikon of this monastery, miraculously, it was located near the door (main entrance) of the monastery. 
For this reason she was named Portaitissa, that is, pillar, guard, guardian of the monastery, as a protection of her monastery from any danger.

The image of the Virgin Mary is, in the conscience of the faithful, always respected and loved, but accessible and not distant. 
It lives in the hearts of the people, in the iconostasis of the houses, in the cobbled streets of their islands, on the slopes of the mountains. 
Always and everywhere, the feminine, intimate form that comforts, heals, protects, alerts.
