Saint Alexios, the Man of God
Saint Alexios lived in Rome during the 4th century. He was born into a wealthy and pious family and was raised with deep Christian values. From a young age, he loved prayer, humility, and silence. Although his parents arranged a marriage for him, he secretly left his home, desiring to dedicate his whole life to God.

He traveled to Edessa in Syria, where he lived for many years as a poor pilgrim, serving in the church of the Theotokos. After long years of hidden asceticism, God led him back to Rome. There, unknown to all, he lived as a beggar at the doorstep of his parents’ own house, without being recognized by them. He endured hardships with patience and prayer until his repose in the early 5th century. At his death, his holiness was revealed by God, and he became known as the “Man of God,” an example of humility and devotion.

The Church of Rome thou didst bring to glory and didst adorn,
and a warm zealot of virtue wast thou revealed to be
through thy ascetic way of life, O Alexios;
therefore with boldness pray unto God
for those who honor and revere thee.
