Saint Andrew was one of the 12 Apostles, also called Protoklitos, because he was the first, together with his brother Peter, to be called to follow Jesus. His memory is celebrated by Christianity on November 30.
Saint Andrew the First-Called is the Patron Saint of Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Barbados and Scotland, as well as Patron Saint of Patras, Amalfi in Italy, Lucca in Malta and Esgueira in Portugal.
Folklore:
November is also called Andrew, because it is believed that the cold “gets worse” on the day of the feast of Saint Andrew. Saint Andrew is also called Tripotiganas, because, as they said, he pierced the pans of those who did not make pancakes on his feast day.
