Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian
Saint Arsenios was born in the village of Farasa in Cappadocia in 1840. From an early age, he showed deep faith, love, and wisdom. He studied theology in Constantinople and, upon returning to Farasa, was ordained a priest. For many years he served as a devoted shepherd to his flock, teaching, hearing confessions, and healing the sick through the grace of God.

Saint Arsenios lived a life of strict fasting, ceaseless prayer, and great humility. He was given the gift of working miracles, and many were healed through his prayers. Despite the persecutions and hardships faced by the Christians of Cappadocia under Ottoman rule, he never abandoned his people, remaining their spiritual father and protector.

In 1924, during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey, he left his homeland together with his flock and settled in Corfu, where he peacefully fell asleep in the Lord shortly after his arrival. His holy relics were later transferred to the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Souroti, near Thessaloniki, where they are venerated by the faithful. Saint Arsenios is greatly loved throughout the Orthodox world and is known as the spiritual father of Saint Paisios the Athonite, who also played a key role in his canonization.

Apolytikion of Saint Arsenios the Cappadocian

Let us honor in faith the holy vessel of grace,
the boast and glory of Cappadocia,
the wonderworker and God-bearer Arsenios;
for he intercedes with Christ our God for us all, crying:
Glory to Him Who gave you strength,
glory to Him Who crowned you,
glory to Him Who works healings for all through you.
